AUdio in general

It is said in http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/D/digital_audio.html and http://www.ehow.com/about_5101414_analog-audio.html,

Audio is actually an electrical sound. There are 2 types of audio. They are analog and digital audio. Analog audio is a representation of a sound that is similar to the air pressure waves of the sound. Sounds are waves of air molecules. In conclusion, analog audio refers to a representation of those waves in a different form. While, digital audio is a reproduction and transmission of sound stored in a digital format. This includes CD's as well as any sound files stored on a computer. In sound recording and reproduction systems, digital audio refers to a digital representation of the audio waveform for processing, storage or transmission.

HIstory of audio

As mentioned in  http://www.aes.org/aeshc/docs/audio.history.timeline.html and http://inventors.about.com/od/audiowaxrecordstomp3/History_of_Sound_Recoding.html,

The history of audio starts when Thomas A. Edison created a phonograph in the year 1877. A phonograph is a strip of tinfoil wrapped around a spinning cylinder. Later in 1887, Emile Berliner invented a successful system of sound recording. It was the first gramaphone, which was a recording on a flat disk. The radio was invented in the year 1895. Radios can transmit things, because it is a wireless telegraphy. On the year 1962, the Philips company released the first compact audio-cassette. Later on, a walkman was created by Sony company. It was a compact and portable tape recorders and players to change the size of the cassette to a smaller size. Finally in the year 1999, the DVD was created. And also a Mp3 later on.

How audio works

First of all, the sound is captured through microphones. Then the sound will be converted to different formats. Such as analog and digital. In this paragraph, we will discuss about how analog audio works.

As you know, first the sound is captured. A microphone is the most common tool to capture sound. It can detect vibration of sound easily, just like the human eardrum. Sound cannot be directly transferred as an audio. So it must be copied to be an analog signal. Then, the analog signal is recorded to a cassette or disk so it can be heard again and again. Finally, the analog signal is changed back to be sounds that people can hear.

Actually, it works almost the same on digital audio.

Who works in an audio company?

As said in http://riverbendstudio.com/pages/recording.html,
usually, there are about 3 groups of people involved in an audio recording process. They are, artist (famous people), producer, and the engineer.
- THE ARTISTS are the focus of the audio. They may sing, or perhaps play musical instruments.
- THE PRODUCER is the one who take care of the flow. He/She is like the boss of the recording.
- THE ENGINEER has the hardest work. Its work is related to the technical issue when recording. It edits the recording too. Without the engineers, the flow of recording won’t work well.

What makes a good audio recording?

Picture
For you guys that want to try to record something, there are lots of things that you must do to make a good one. The ways are:
 -       Using a good quality of microphones can make your audio recording better.

-       Make sure all sounds are not heard. Be extra careful of the wind sounds.

-       Maintain your distance. Be sure to record in the same distance as the last one.

-       Try to record at a place that has walls that absorb sound. Such as a studio.

-       Controlling your balance is also important. Balance between the background sound and your sound must be balance.

-       The smoothness of sound. Try to have no bumps in your words. In other words, speak clearly if your recording your own voice.

There are still lots more of requirements for making a good audio recording. But these are the basic ones. :)
